Kenya Condemns Houthi Missile and Drone Attacks on Saudi Arabia

The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of Kenya condemned escalating missile and drone attacks by Yemen's Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia on September 18. In a formal statement, the ministry called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, asserting that strikes targeting civilians, critical infrastructure, and sacred sites violate international humanitarian law and threaten regional stability.

The diplomatic response follows a sharp escalation in fighting, including a drone interception in Taif province that killed one Yemeni resident and injured two others. While Saudi authorities reported an attempted Houthi drone attack near Mecca, Houthi leader Abdel-Malik al-Houthi denied targeting the holy city.

Nairobi expressed specific concern over threats to maritime trade in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, urging the protection of commercial vessels to ensure global economic stability. Kenya reaffirmed its support for Saudi Arabia's sovereignty and called for a Yemeni-led political settlement under United Nations auspices while monitoring the safety of Kenyan nationals in the Kingdom.
