HP Repositions PCs as Personal Intelligence Devices
HP Inc. is shifting toward a hybrid AI architecture to reduce cloud costs and enable local model inference for enterprises.
HP Inc. presented a strategic shift at The Six Five Summit: AI Unleashed 2026, arguing that personal computers are evolving from basic tools into personal intelligence devices. The company is moving toward a hybrid AI architecture that distributes inference across the cloud, on-premises systems, and local devices.
Ketan Patel, President of Personal Systems at HP, stated that the future of inferencing will be "distributed or hybrid." This approach aims to improve data sovereignty and reduce soaring cloud expenses. HP estimates that shifting to local model inference could save enterprises between $650,000 and $2 million per 1,000 employees.
The company's three-layer strategy focuses on intelligent hardware capable of supporting high-parameter models, a seamless workplace ecosystem, and an IT control plane for security and governance. HP predicts the agent-based AI market will reach a $6 trillion total addressable market by 2028, which the company expects will drive premium hardware pricing and create new revenue streams through software and services.
