Indian Employers Offer Higher Salaries for GenAI Micro-Credentials

Coursera reports that 58% of Indian employers will pay 15% more to graduates with Generative AI micro-credentials, the highest rate among seven surveyed countries.

A report from Coursera reveals that 58% of Indian employers are willing to pay starting salaries more than 15% higher for fresh graduates who hold Generative AI micro-credentials. This is the highest percentage of any of the seven countries surveyed, which also included the United States, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Data from over 3,500 employers, learners, and education leaders indicates a broad shift toward skill-based hiring in India. The report states that 100% of Indian employers are open to offering higher salaries to graduates with any form of micro-credential, and 81% report that such candidates move more quickly through hiring pipelines.

These trends align with India's National Education Policy 2020 and National Credit Framework, which promote flexible, skill-based higher education to enhance employability. Ashutosh Gupta, Managing Director for India and Asia-Pacific at Coursera, noted that micro-credentials are becoming a defining method for learners to validate expertise in rapidly evolving fields as AI reshapes the workplace.
