Kyiv Suburb Protests Over Alleged Military Torture Facility
Hundreds of civilians clashed with security forces in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka after reports emerged of mobilized men being tortured in a National Guard facility.
Hundreds of civilians clashed with security forces on November 2, 2026, in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, a suburb of Kyiv. The unrest began following reports that mobilized men were being unlawfully detained and tortured in a basement facility. Protesters used flares and eggs in attempts to force open the gates of the unmarked building.
The National Guard of Ukraine identified the site as an Azov 1st National Guard Corps facility used for temporary personnel accommodation before military training. While witnesses and social media reports alleged that 20 to 40 men suffered beatings and psychological abuse, police denied any illegal detentions or fatalities. National Guard commander Oleksandr Pivnenko reported that four servicemen were hospitalized following the confrontation.
Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi ordered an internal investigation into the conditions of the facility. Meanwhile, Azov commander Denys Prokopenko dismissed the allegations, characterizing them as a Russian attempt to destabilize the country.
