Apple Plans September Launch for Foldable iPhone Ultra

Apple is preparing to launch its first foldable smartphone, potentially named the iPhone Ultra, during a launch event scheduled for September 8 in the United States. The device is expected to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series, with the company targeting the production of approximately seven million units during the second half of 2026.

Mass production timelines for the device have repeatedly slipped from June to August. These delays stem from production testing issues involving the foldable display and the hinge mechanism. Hon Hai Precision Industry, Apple's manufacturing partner, adjusted production plans in late July to account for these constraints.

Due to these supply issues and pricing concerns, the initial release may be restricted to the U.S. market. Availability in other regions, including India and Australia, could be delayed by several months. The device is expected to carry a significant price premium; reports suggest that in Australia, the iPhone Ultra could cost $700 more than the Samsung Galaxy Fold 8.
