Italy Producer Price Inflation Drops to 5.8 Percent

Italy's producer price inflation slowed to 5.8 percent in June, the lowest level in three months, driven primarily by rising energy costs.

Producer price inflation in Italy moderated to 5.8 percent year-over-year in June, according to data released Thursday by the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT). This represents a deceleration from the 7.3 percent increase recorded in May and marks the lowest inflation level for the sector in three months.

Energy costs were the primary driver of the overall increase, rising by 14.9 percent. Other contributing factors included a 4.8 percent increase in prices for intermediate goods, a 1.2 percent rise for consumer goods, and a 0.2 percent increase for capital goods.

On a monthly basis, producer prices remained flat in June, following a 0.2 percent decline in May. Despite the recent moderation in the annual rate, prices in this sector have risen consistently since March.
