DAP to Decide Stance on Najib Razak Royal Pardon

The Democratic Action Party will convene a Central Executive Committee meeting on September 19 to establish its official stance and next steps following the royal pardon of former Prime Minister Najib Razak. Secretary-general Anthony Loke stated that while the party respects the constitutional pardon powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, it remains committed to the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

Loke emphasized the severe financial consequences of the 1MDB scandal, noting that the government has faced RM51.4 billion in obligations, with RM42.5 billion already paid. He asserted that public anger over the embezzlement was a primary catalyst for the change of government during the 2018 general election.

Regarding internal party alignment, the DAP described the position of Hannah Yeoh, a member of the Pardons Board, as consistent with the party's core principles.
