Berkshire Hathaway Views Rising Japanese Bond Yields as Manageable
Greg Abel states that rising Japanese bond yields do not pose a fundamental challenge to Berkshire Hathaway's investments in five major trading houses.
CEO Greg Abel stated during a visit to Tokyo that rising Japanese bond yields are not currently a fundamental challenge for the five major trading houses in which Berkshire Hathaway holds stakes. Although Japan's 10-year bond yield recently reached a 30-year high of just over 3%, Abel noted these rates remain modest compared to global yields, such as the U.S. 10-year Treasury Yield.
Berkshire Hathaway holds stakes exceeding 10% in Itochu, Marubeni, Mitsubishi, Mitsui, and Sumitomo. The holding company received permission from these firms to exceed the original single-digit ownership limit. Abel confirmed that the company intends to hold these long-term investments for decades and will continue to raise debt in yen as appropriate.
