Armenia Signals Imminent Reopening of Border With Türkiye
Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced that relations with Türkiye have matured enough to potentially reopen the border and confirmed peace with Azerbaijan.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced at the Warsaw Security Forum that the process of normalizing relations with Türkiye has matured to the point where the closed border could reopen imminently. Mirzoyan stated that Armenia remains determined to improve ties with all neighbors regardless of circumstances, suggesting that a headline announcing the border opening could appear as early as the following morning.
Regarding Azerbaijan, Mirzoyan confirmed that peace is already a reality. He noted that bilateral trade has commenced, regional communications have been unblocked, and territories have opened for transit, although some sensitive issues remain unresolved.
Mirzoyan also detailed Armenia's deepening integration with the European Union, citing a law adopted in spring 2025 to begin the accession process. While he emphasized that diplomatic efforts with neighbors are separate from European aspirations, he acknowledged that resolving regional conflicts is a necessary step toward achieving full EU membership.
