Jeremy Moss Wins Michigan 11th Congressional District Seat
Jeremy Moss won election to the U.S. House of Representatives, becoming the first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress from Michigan.
Michigan voters elected Democratic state senator Jeremy Moss to the U.S. House of Representatives for the 11th Congressional District. Moss defeated Republican Ethan Baker to secure the Oakland County seat, making him the first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress from Michigan.
Moss succeeds Democratic Representative Haley Stevens, who vacated the seat following an unsuccessful bid for the U.S. Senate nomination. During his tenure in the state senate, Moss sponsored legislation to expand the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, which Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed in March 2023 to provide explicit protections for gender identity and sexual orientation in public accommodations, employment, and housing.
Upon his election, Moss pledged to support the Equality Act in Congress. He has advocated for Democratic representatives to be "fighters and not folders" in the defense of their principles.
