RenaissanceRe Beats Earnings Estimates Despite GAAP Net Loss
RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. reported third-quarter adjusted earnings of $12.71 per share, surpassing analyst expectations despite a GAAP net loss driven by investment declines.
RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. reported third-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings per share of $12.71, beating analyst projections of $10.30. The company generated gross premiums written of $2.1 billion and achieved a consolidated combined ratio of 79.7%.
Despite the operating strength, the company posted a GAAP net loss of $4.02 per share. This result stemmed primarily from $879.8 million in mark-to-market investment losses on fixed maturity holdings caused by rising market yields. Additionally, the combined ratio was affected by $191.4 million in net losses from large-scale events, including the Middle East War, a Colombian earthquake, and the Ras Laffan explosion.
To return capital to shareholders, the company repurchased $310.1 million of common shares during the quarter and another $143.8 million through October 23, 2026. CEO Kevin J. O’Donnell attributed the performance to the company's three drivers of profit: underwriting, fee, and net investment income.
