US Issues Middle East Alerts Over Iranian-Backed Houthi Threats
The US State Department warned Americans in the Middle East to exercise heightened vigilance due to increased Houthi attack threats and Iranian targeting of US officials.
The United States Department of State and various diplomatic missions issued security alerts on November 7, 2026, urging American citizens in the Middle East to exercise heightened vigilance. The warnings cite an increased threat of armed attacks by the Iranian-backed Houthi group in Yemen and reported efforts by Iran to target US government officials across the region.
These alerts cover a wide range of locations, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar, Oman, Lebanon, Bahrain, Yemen, Iran, Iraq, and Jerusalem. US authorities warned that regional hostilities could escalate rapidly, potentially leading to attacks on American businesses and other overseas institutions. The US Mission to the United Arab Emirates specifically cautioned travelers about potential airspace closures, flight cancellations, and general travel disruptions.
The security posture follows previous Houthi attacks on critical infrastructure and civilian airports in Saudi Arabia. In response to the deteriorating security environment, the US government ordered non-emergency employees and their families to leave Saudi Arabia effective October 23. Travelers are advised to monitor local developments and enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for real-time security updates.
