Dow Jones Hits Record 53,000 High on Semiconductor Rally
The Dow Jones Industrial Average reached a record closing high above 53,000 as semiconductor gains offset job cuts at Microsoft.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average reached a new all-time closing high on Monday, crossing the 53,000 mark. The Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 also closed in positive territory, driven largely by a rally in semiconductor stocks.
Broadcom Inc. extended its custom chip supply agreement with Apple through 2031, while Advanced Micro Devices saw stock gains following a Goldman Sachs target price increase and a reported partnership with Turing. Additionally, South Korea-based SK Hynix filed with the SEC to raise approximately $28 billion through a U.S. initial public offering, with Nasdaq trading expected to begin this Friday.
Other corporate developments included Microsoft announcing 4,800 job cuts and a downsizing of its Xbox division. In economic data, the Institute for Supply Management reported the Services Purchasing Managers Index remained in expansion territory at 54.0 for June.
