Deep Green Redrafts Lansing Data Center Plan to Secure Commitments

The vote to approve rezoning for a $120 million data center in downtown Lansing, Michigan, has been postponed to resolve a procedural issue. The UK-based developer, Deep Green, is redrafting its application for the 24-megawatt facility in the Stadium District to formally incorporate community commitments into legal contracts with the city and the Lansing Board of Water and Light.

These amendments include a $1 million return on equity payment to the city and the upfront payment of all energy infrastructure costs. To address resident concerns regarding the power grid and water supply, the developer is committing to a closed-loop cooling system and has declined to request local tax incentives.

Lansing Mayor Andy Schor noted that these changes ensure promises are written into the agreements, while the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce has expressed support for the project. The Planning Commission is scheduled to reconsider the redrafted application on March 3.
