Azerbaijan and Slovakia Establish Strategic Partnership

Azerbaijan and Slovakia have established a strategic partnership characterized by intensified political dialogue and cooperation across multiple sectors. During a reception in Baku marking the Constitution Day and Armed Forces Day of the Slovak Republic, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, and Slovak Ambassador Elchin Gasimov announced that bilateral ties have evolved from formal diplomacy into a genuine strategic partnership.

This diplomatic shift follows a series of high-level exchanges, including a December 2025 visit to Slovakia by President Ilham Aliyev and a July 2026 visit to Azerbaijan by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini. Prime Minister Robert Fico also conducted official visits to strengthen ties. Cooperation now spans trade, energy, and military technologies, as well as the restoration of Azerbaijan's liberated territories.

Concrete projects include a Slovak-implemented Smart Village in the Aghdam district. To further integrate the two nations, officials plan to launch direct flights and establish a joint school. Slovakia currently views Azerbaijan as a key regional guarantor of stability and development.
