Syrians Protest Israeli Military Incursions After Civilian Death

Hundreds of Syrians protested in multiple provinces to condemn Israeli military incursions and the killing of a civilian in Daraa province.

Hundreds of Syrians protested across Damascus, Homs, Hasakah, and Daraa on October 23, 2026, to condemn repeated Israeli military incursions and attacks on Syrian territory. Demonstrators demanded respect for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, with rallies occurring at sites including the United Nations building in Damascus and New Clock Square in Homs.

The protests were sparked by the death of Moaz, a man with special needs killed during an Israeli incursion into the village of Jamla in Daraa province. The Government of Syria accuses Israel of violating a 1974 disengagement agreement through shelling, raiding homes, and detaining citizens in the southern Quneitra and Daraa provinces.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates held Israeli authorities fully responsible for the civilian's death and called on the international community to compel Israel to respect UN resolutions. Israel has maintained troops in a southern security zone to establish a demilitarized area, citing distrust of the Islamist authorities that took power in Syria in December 2024.
