BP p.l.c. Awards Emerson Electric Co. Automation Contract

BP p.l.c. contracted Emerson Electric Co. to provide automation and digital twin technologies for the $2.9 billion Shah Deniz Compression project offshore Azerbaijan.

BP p.l.c. awarded a multi-million-dollar contract to Emerson Electric Co. to provide automation technologies for the $2.9 billion Shah Deniz Compression project in the Caspian Sea. The project aims to increase gas recovery from the maturing field by accessing lower-pressure reserves, with an expected output of 50 billion cubic meters of additional natural gas and 25 million barrels of condensate.

Emerson Electric Co. will supply integrated control and safety systems, including DeltaV Distributed Control and Safety Instrumented Systems, as well as cloud engineering and digital twin technologies. These systems will allow BP p.l.c. to remotely operate a new electrically powered, normally unattended offshore compression platform from the onshore Sangachal terminal. The platform will feature four 11-MW compressors serving as a hub for the Shah Deniz Alpha and Bravo platforms.

Construction is scheduled for completion in 2029. First gas compression from the Alpha platform is expected in 2029, followed by the Bravo platform in 2030.
