Microsoft Market Cap Hits $3.8 Trillion Amid AI Expansion
Microsoft Corporation reached a $3.8 trillion market capitalization following strong cloud growth and the integration of Copilot AI into its legacy software.
Microsoft Corporation reached a market capitalization of $3.8 trillion after its stock rose more than 30% last quarter, the company's largest quarterly gain since the late 1990s. This surge followed a late July earnings report that highlighted the strongest cloud computing growth the company has seen in four years.
To maintain its competitive edge against AI-native competitors, the company is integrating its Copilot AI product across its legacy software businesses. This strategic shift comes alongside a massive increase in capital expenditure, with forecasts reaching $190 billion this year and $217 billion next year.
Despite these spending levels, Microsoft remains distinct from other hyperscalers such as Meta, Alphabet, and Amazon by maintaining positive annual free cash flow. Investors are now monitoring the adoption rates of Copilot and the overall return on investment for these AI expenditures ahead of the next earnings report.
