Bank of England to Open New Leeds Office by 2028

The Bank of England will open a new office at Capitol House in Bond Court, Leeds, in late 2028. This expansion is part of a broader location strategy to increase the central bank's regional footprint while consolidating its operations in London, which includes refurbishing the Threadneedle Street headquarters and reportedly closing the Moorgate site.

The bank currently employs nearly 300 staff in Leeds and intends to grow that workforce to at least 500 by 2027. Once operational, the Capitol House facility will replace the bank's existing office at Yorkshire House.

Governor Andrew Bailey stated the move strengthens the bank's presence across the UK and ensures it better represents the communities it serves. West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin described the permanent base as a powerful endorsement of the region's economic future and its Northern Square Mile, arguing that it will help ensure the national economy is shaped by voices from across different regions.
