OpenAI Launches Models on Amazon Web Services
OpenAI integrated its frontier models and Codex into Amazon Web Services, prompting potential legal disputes with Microsoft over exclusivity agreements.
OpenAI launched its frontier models and Codex on Amazon Web Services (AWS), making them generally available across Commercial and GovCloud regions. The integration, facilitated through Amazon Bedrock, allows enterprises to develop AI applications and software engineering agents while utilizing AWS-native security and governance frameworks.
This expansion aims to minimize operational friction regarding procurement and production readiness. The company also announced plans to integrate Daybreak, a suite of cyber models and security tools for resilient software development, into AWS in the future.
The partnership has created tension with Microsoft, which has considered legal action. Microsoft alleges that making these models available on AWS potentially violates an exclusivity agreement requiring model access through Microsoft Azure. OpenAI revenue chief Denise Dresser stated that the AWS launch is unrelated to any restructuring of the company's relationship with Microsoft.
