China Responds to White House Press Secretary's Sanitation Comments

China's Foreign Ministry invited White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia to visit the country after she claimed China lacked proper toilets.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China responded Friday to comments made by Katie Zacharia, the new White House Press Secretary, regarding sanitation in China. During an interview with commentator Jack Posobiec, Zacharia questioned how China could be a global successor to the United States, citing her perceptions from 2016 that the country lacked "proper toilets."

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning replied by stating that China welcomes Zacharia to visit the country "more often when she has the opportunity."

Zacharia is facing additional scrutiny over her professional credentials. Although she has described herself as a lawyer, she admitted she never passed the bar exam in either the United States or China. She previously worked at the Zhong Lun Law Firm in Beijing from 2011 to 2013. Zacharia may return to China as early as next month to accompany President Donald Trump to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Shenzhen.
