Amit Shah Inaugurates Jayaprakash Narayan Library in New Delhi

Union Home Minister Amit Shah opened the Jayaprakash Narayan Library in New Delhi, emphasizing the role of reading in nation-building and youth development.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Jayaprakash Narayan Public Library in New Delhi on July 11, 2026. Developed by the New Delhi Municipal Council, the multi-story facility at Mandir Marg is named after the freedom fighter and "torchbearer of 'Total Revolution'" Jayaprakash Narayan. The institution integrates traditional and digital learning, housing over 32,000 physical books, 1 crore e-books, a research room, and a modern reading area with a 200-person seating capacity.

During the ceremony, Shah argued that a nation's future is better assessed by the prevalence of young people in libraries than by agricultural, industrial, or financial indices. He urged administrators to partner with schools in nearby assembly constituencies and cited a previous library model implemented in his Gandhinagar constituency in Gujarat to democratize literature via village hubs and mobile vans.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the library as a significant asset for students preparing for competitive examinations, such as the UPSC. Gupta praised the leadership of the central government, stating that a "wind of development" is driving progress across all sectors of the city, and congratulated the New Delhi Municipal Council for completing the project.
