Mayor Zohran Mamdani Forms New York City Business Advisory Council
Mayor Zohran Mamdani is establishing a Business Advisory Council to gather industry insights for a new citywide economic development strategy.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani is forming a Business Advisory Council to gather insights from the finance, technology, and real estate industries to inform an economic development strategy for New York City. The administration has reached out to several high-profile executives to join the council, including Robert Wolf, former CEO of UBS Americas; Antonio Weiss, a former Lazard executive and Obama administration Treasury counselor; and Jose Tavarez, president of Bank of America's New York business.
This initiative coincides with Mamdani disbanding a separate corporate advisory board for the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, a nonprofit that channels private donations to city priorities. The restructuring occurs amid ongoing tensions between the mayor and the city's business elite, fueled by Mamdani's pursuit of higher taxes on corporations and wealthy residents.
