Bhutan and Bangladesh Provide Millions in Aid to Nepal
The governments of Bhutan and Bangladesh provided financial assistance to Nepal following devastating floods and mudslides that caused widespread damage and loss of life.
The Government of Nepal received significant international financial aid following devastating floods and mudslides that struck the country on August 26, with particularly severe damage reported in the northern region.
On September 2, the Royal Government of Bhutan contributed INR 100 million to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. The contribution was made upon the Royal Command of the King and delivered by Ambassador Vetsop Namgyel to the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi. The gesture was intended to reflect the longstanding friendship and solidarity between the two nations.
Following this, the Government of Bangladesh provided $1 million in humanitarian assistance to the same relief fund. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir conveyed the aid package to Nepalese Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari in Dhaka on September 3. This financial support followed a series of diplomatic gestures from Bangladesh, including a condolence motion adopted by the Jatiya Sangsad on August 27 and a letter of condolence sent by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
