Elections Alberta Extends Voting Hours After Power Outages

Elections Alberta extended voting hours at two advance polling locations in Sherwood Park after high winds caused province-wide power outages during a provincial referendum.

Elections Alberta extended voting hours at two advance polling locations in Sherwood Park on Saturday, October 17, after high winds triggered power outages across the province. The adjustments occurred on the final day of advance voting for a provincial referendum to compensate for lost time.

The polling station at the Four Points by Sheraton Sherwood Park remained open until 9 p.m., while the Emerald Hills Shopping Centre location stayed open until 8:50 p.m. Other disruptions included the temporary closure of the Two Hills Recreation Centre in the Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville division, which shut down at 2:20 p.m. and redirected voters to Vegreville.

Agency officials confirmed that all ballots and voting materials remained secure throughout the disruptions.
