Israel Launches Artillery Attacks in Southern Lebanon

The Israeli military launched artillery and machine-gun attacks on the Lebanese towns of Houla and Wadi al-Salouqi on Friday, August 28, 2026. These strikes followed a series of intensified operations on Thursday that involved airstrikes, shelling, and ground incursions in Mansouri and Mays al-Jabal.

This offensive is part of a broader military campaign in southern Lebanon that has persisted since March 2. The continued violence occurs despite a US-mediated framework agreement reached on June 26. That agreement stipulates a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory in exchange for the disarmament of armed groups, including Hezbollah, and the deployment of the Lebanese army.

While the federal government of the United States continues to sponsor talks regarding the implementation of the peace framework, Israeli forces have maintained their operational pressure in the region.
