Jeremy Clarkson Accuses Council of Blocking Pub Car Park Improvements

Jeremy Clarkson claims West Oxfordshire District Council has forbidden him from installing a hard surface at his pub, leaving 300 employees facing job uncertainty.

Jeremy Clarkson claims that West Oxfordshire District Council has forbidden him from installing a hard surface in the car park of his pub, The Farmer’s Dog, in Asthall. The dispute gained public attention after social media influencer Charley Gillam posted a video depicting the car park as a mud bath.

Writing in a Sunday Times column and posting on Instagram, Clarkson stated he has repeatedly requested permission to lay hardcore to prevent customers from dragging mud onto public roads during the winter months. He alleges that despite his pleas, the council has remained silent or explicitly told him the work cannot be done.

Clarkson noted that this regulatory uncertainty extends to his other Cotswolds enterprises, including the Diddly Squat Farm Shop near Chipping Norton. He expressed concern for the nearly 300 people employed across his various businesses, stating that the lack of clarity from local authorities leaves these workers unsure if their jobs are secure.
