AI Agents Displace 10,000 Entry-Level US Marketing Jobs

AI agents are rapidly replacing entry-level marketing roles, leading to thousands of job cuts at major holding companies and consulting firms.

AI agents are rapidly displacing entry-level marketing roles across the United States, with over 10,000 jobs eliminated in the first seven months of 2025. According to a benchmark by The Rank Masters, the shift is most pronounced in junior copywriting and design roles, where agents now manage first drafts and weekly reports.

WPP plc led significant workforce reductions, cutting approximately 9,000 jobs to target 500 million pounds in annual savings. Similarly, Omnicom Group and The Interpublic Group of Companies eliminated 8,200 roles combined to target 1.5 billion dollars in savings. McKinsey & Company reduced its staff by 3,000 to 4,000 positions while simultaneously integrating 20,000 AI agents into its operations.

Industry value is shifting toward judgment and AI workflow management, resulting in increased demand for senior content strategists and marketing managers. Some firms have adopted a different approach; Publicis Groupe expanded revenue by 5.6% by training 85% of its client-facing staff on AI platforms, cutting only 200 positions.
