Italy June Trade Surplus Drops to 4.23 Billion Euros

The national statistics agency Istituto Nazionale di Statistica reported that Italy's foreign trade surplus decreased to 4.23 billion euros in June 2026. This figure represents a decline from the 5.38 billion euro surplus recorded in June 2025 and fell short of the 4.74 billion euros expected by analysts.

The decrease was driven by imports growing at a faster annual rate than exports. Year-on-year, imports increased by 13.2%, while exports rose by 9.8%, with shipbuilding sales providing significant support to the export sector.

On a month-on-month basis, the seasonally adjusted trade surplus rose to 3.67 billion euros from 3.41 billion euros in May, as exports and imports grew by 1.6% and 1.2% respectively. Despite the June dip, Italy's total trade surplus for the first half of 2026 reached 24.5 billion euros, an increase over the 22.8 billion euros recorded during the same period in 2025.
