Naidu and YSRCP Trade Violence Accusations During Local Polls
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and the YSR Congress Party traded accusations of electoral violence and state intimidation during local body elections.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) have traded accusations of violence and electoral intimidation during local body polls in Andhra Pradesh. Naidu accused the YSRCP of engaging in "criminal politics," alleging that party members disrupted polling in Tirupati and Kadapa. He specifically claimed a YSRCP MP used a vehicle to run over NDA cadres and asserted that the party utilized fake litigation and media outlets to damage the state's image.
In response, YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu accused the TDP-led government of colluding with the police and the State Election Commission to undermine democracy. Rambabu alleged that police acted as "mute spectators" during attacks on candidates and that YSRCP nominees were prevented from filing their papers while opposition leaders were placed under house arrest. The YSRCP has identified 54 police officials for their alleged involvement in these irregularities.
