Game Retail Limited Collapses Owing 15.8 Million Pounds
Game Retail Limited entered administration after shifting consumer habits and digital downloads rendered the UK video game retailer non-viable.
Game Retail Limited, a prominent UK video game and console retailer, has collapsed into administration owing 15.8 million pounds. The company's liabilities include 12 million pounds owed to unsecured creditors and 3.5 million pounds to a secured creditor.
KR8 Advisory administrators James Saunders and Lauren Wentworth reported that the business became non-viable due to the transition from physical media to digital downloads, Brexit-related uncertainty, and increased competition. The financial deterioration intensified during the final quarter of 2025, compounded by global chip shortages and a lack of major console releases since 2020.
Although Frasers Group previously acquired the company's intellectual property to maintain brand concessions and support operations, the secured creditor ultimately withdrew funding. Administrators expect that funds may be available for the secured creditor, but likely not for unsecured creditors beyond the prescribed part.
