Armenia Appoints First Ambassador to Pakistan

Vahagn Khachaturyan, the President of Armenia, signed a decree on July 6, 2026, appointing Karen Grigoryan as the country's first-ever ambassador to Pakistan. The appointment follows a recommendation from Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Grigoryan will hold the position of ambassador to Pakistan concurrently with his current role as Armenia's ambassador to the United Arab Emirates. He will remain resident in Abu Dhabi while managing the diplomatic duties for both nations.

This move follows the formal establishment of diplomatic ties between Armenia and Pakistan on August 31, 2025, during a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin. The two countries had lacked diplomatic relations for decades, primarily because Pakistan supported Azerbaijan during the Karabakh conflict. The current shift aligns with Armenia's broader policy of normalizing foreign relations and promoting a regional peace agenda.
