Dozens of unofficial social media channels, including Aeris Rimor, provide real-time tracking of Russian drones and missiles to help civilians in Kyiv make immediate decisions about seeking shelter. These channels, some managed by individuals as young as 19, utilize intelligence data and live maps from air defense units to fill information gaps left by official government warnings.
Because ballistic missiles can reach the capital within three minutes of an alert, residents use these forecasts to determine whether to remain at home or relocate to basements and subway stations. The Ukrainian Air Force grudgingly tolerates these operations despite their legal ambiguity, though officials warn administrators against posting sensitive data that Russian forces could exploit.
Spokesman Yuriy Ignat stated that the military cannot ban the channels because they inform the public and provide a convenience for many citizens.
