Palantir Hires Former Labour Leader Tom Watson for UK

Palantir Technologies Inc. appointed Tom Watson, a former deputy leader of the UK Labour Party and current Labour peer, as its senior vice president for the United Kingdom. Watson, who previously served as a defence minister and minister for digital engagement, will work alongside UK and Europe CEO Louis Mosley to expand the company's public sector footprint in a market where it currently generates £427 million in annual turnover.

Watson has advised the company since 2024 and has now taken a leave of absence from the House of Lords, relinquishing his parliamentary pass to assume the role. He is tasked with leading initiatives to ensure public contracts support British jobs.

The appointment occurs as the software developer and military vendor faces significant pressure in the UK. The company is currently navigating criticism regarding a £330 million National Health Service contract and is engaged in a legal battle with London Mayor Sadiq Khan over a blocked £50 million contract for Metropolitan police investigations. The move has drawn criticism from the campaign group Unlock Democracy, which cited the "revolving door" between government and big tech.
