DSS Probes Atiku Abubakar's Claims of Rally Sabotage
The Department of State Services ordered an investigation into allegations that it recruited protesters to disrupt an African Democratic Congress campaign rally in Sokoto State.
The Department of State Services ordered an investigation into allegations that it recruited protesters to disrupt a campaign rally for the African Democratic Congress in Sokoto State. Atiku Abubakar, the ADC presidential candidate, accused the agency of attempting to create disorder to justify the imposition of a curfew.
The agency denied the claims, stating they were inconsistent with its operations and could demoralize personnel. To refute the accusations, the DSS highlighted its rescue of ADC governorship candidate Mannir Daniya during an attack on October 31, 2026, and the prosecution of Monday Udeme Steven for threatening New Democratic Congress candidate Peter Obi in Rivers State.
Despite the denial, Director-General Oluwatosin Ajayi ordered the probe in deference to Abubakar. The agency also addressed separate allegations from Omoyele Sowore regarding an attack in Ekiti State, noting that it is awaiting the results of a police investigation into that matter.
