Kwankwaso and Obidient Movement Defend Peter Obi Against Ali Modu Sheriff
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the Obidient Movement rejected claims by former governor Ali Modu Sheriff that Peter Obi lacks patriotism and Northern political support.
The Obidient Movement and vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso responded to criticisms from former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff following his appearance on Channels Television. Sheriff questioned the patriotism of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi and asserted that Obi lacks significant political viability and support among voters in Northern Nigeria, specifically in Kano.
Kwankwaso dismissed these claims, noting that Obi secured approximately 2.8 million votes in the North during his first presidential attempt. He argued that the OK ticket remains a formidable force due to the influence of the Kwankwasiyya movement and widespread dissatisfaction with the current All Progressives Congress administration. Kwankwaso further advised Sheriff to focus on the security and humanitarian crises in Borno State rather than making divisive remarks.
Simultaneously, the Obidient Movement accused Sheriff of attempting to divert public attention from the failures of President Bola Tinubu's administration. The group defended Obi's commitment to national unity, citing his regional business investments and agricultural plans for northern Nigeria as evidence of his patriotism. They maintained that Sheriff lacks the moral authority to challenge Obi's loyalty to the nation.
