Micron Market Value Drops Below $1 Trillion Amid Competition
Micron Technology fell below a $1 trillion market valuation following a weekly stock decline of 14.6% and intensifying competition from Chinese chipmakers.
The market valuation of Micron Technology fell below $1 trillion on October 16, 2026, after a single-day drop of 5.63% left the company worth $994.34 billion. The stock closed the week at $878.84, representing a 14.6% weekly decline and a roughly 30% drop from its 52-week high of $1,255.00.
Investor concerns regarding a cyclical peak in memory pricing, rising oil prices, and broader tech sector sell-offs drove the decline. However, the company reported quarterly revenue of $54.23 billion, a nearly 380% year-over-year increase. Micron has secured over 75% of its fiscal 2027 shipments through contracts or allocations featuring pricing floors and ceilings to mitigate volatility.
Competitive pressure is mounting from state-backed Chinese firms. ChangXin Memory Technologies reported a preliminary nine-month net profit between $19.6 billion and $19.8 billion and plans to launch a denser DRAM chip by the end of the year. Yangtze Memory Technologies is also attempting to overtake competitors in the NAND market. While Micron views the advances by ChangXin as a credible supply threat starting in 2028, current contracts are expected to shield the majority of its revenue until that time.
