Special Counsel Lee Tae-han Inspects 2.47 Million Ballots
Special counsel Lee Tae-han will inspect 2.47 million ballots in Seoul to investigate irregularities and alleged data manipulation during the June 3 local elections.
Special counsel Lee Tae-han and his investigation team will inspect approximately 2.47 million ballots on Wednesday at the Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium in Songpa, Seoul. The gymnasium served as a vote counting center during the June 3 local elections, which were characterized by ballot shortages that prevented some voters from casting their votes.
The inspection aims to verify potential irregularities, including equipment errors, ballot forgery, and intrusions. The team is also investigating allegations that the National Election Commission manipulated voter turnout data and managed the election process laxly. Lee clarified that the process is an inspection of the ballots rather than a recount.
Around 100 individuals selected by the National Assembly, including lawmakers from rival parties and members of the press, will observe the proceedings. Lee's team is operating under a 150-day mandate to resolve public skepticism regarding the fairness and management of the elections.
