Ghana Raises Cocoa Farmgate Prices for 2026-27 Season

The Ghana Cocoa Board increased the farmgate price paid to cocoa farmers for the 2026-27 season to 42,400 cedis per ton. This 2.4% rise is intended to ensure that farmers receive at least 70% of the free-on-board export cost.

This pricing decision creates a divergence with Côte d'Ivoire, the world's top producer, which maintained its prices at $2,084 per ton. Analysts suggest this price gap could incentivize smuggling from Côte d'Ivoire into Ghana, which may disrupt international supply chains.

Global cocoa prices have trended upward since February. This trend is driven by expectations of smaller West African harvests resulting from crop disease, adverse weather, and the potential impact of El Niño.
