DOJ Investigates Ilhan Omar for Immigration Fraud and Financial Disclosures

The Department of Justice is investigating Representative Ilhan Omar for alleged immigration fraud, identity falsification, and discrepancies in her congressional financial disclosures.

The United States Department of Justice is conducting a federal investigation into Ilhan Omar, a U.S. Representative from Minnesota, regarding the legality of her citizenship and her financial disclosures. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro is leading the probe, which alleges immigration fraud and the use of a false identity. Federal agents recently raided Omar's residence, seizing her cell phone and DNA samples after a U.S. magistrate judge in Washington, D.C., found probable cause for a search warrant.

Investigators are examining whether Omar or her father, Nur Omar Mohamed, misrepresented her age on immigration documents in 2000 to allow her to derive citizenship as a minor. Pirro asserts that Omar's legal name is Ilhan Nur Said Elmi and suggests her family may have committed fraud to obtain citizenship. The probe also explores allegations that Omar married her brother to secure his legal status in the United States. Reports indicate the investigation aims to build a case to strip Omar of her citizenship and deport her.

Additionally, federal authorities are investigating whether Omar inflated her net worth on 2025 congressional disclosure forms. Omar initially reported a household net worth between $6 million and $30 million before amending the figure to between $18,004 and $95,000. While some sources attribute the timing of the investigation to political strategy by Donald Trump, the Department of Justice maintains its focus is on whether Omar followed laws regarding her legal name and immigration paperwork.
