Heir James Cox Chambers Faces Extradition Over Hamas Support

James Cox Chambers, an American heir who funded a Massachusetts communist community, is facing extradition from Spain to the U.S. for allegedly supporting Hamas.

The documentary film All About the Money, directed by Sinéad O’Shea, profiles James Cox Chambers, an American heir to a $250 million fortune. Known as Fergie, Chambers used his inheritance to establish and bankroll a small communist community in Alford, Massachusetts, which featured a self-sustaining farm and a gym that prohibited police members.

The community's activities eventually shifted toward political activism, resulting in criminal mischief and trespassing charges during protests against Elbit Systems, an Israeli-owned arms manufacturer. These actions led to the arrest of several members, including Paige Belanger. While Chambers funded the legal defense for his associates, the group experienced growing internal rancour.

Chambers subsequently fled to Tunisia to avoid legal complications. He is currently the subject of an extradition request from Spain to the United States following allegations that he provided support for Hamas.
