Toyota Launches 2027 Prius With Minor Updates and Price Hikes
Toyota Motor Corporation introduced the 2027 Prius and Prius Plug-in Hybrid featuring new standard climate control and price increases amid a sharp sales decline.
Toyota Motor Corporation has released the 2027 Prius and Prius Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) with minimal changes to the previous model year. The updates include dual-zone climate control as a standard feature across all trims and a new black exterior paint color called Inked, which replaces Midnight Black Metallic.
Pricing for the lineup has increased by $205 to $305. The standard Prius starts at $28,755, while the base hybrid LE FWD model is listed at $30,050. The Plug-in Hybrid starts at $33,980. Both models continue to use the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0.
Fuel efficiency ratings have shifted. The Prius hybrid LE FWD combined rating dropped to 55 mpg from 57 mpg in the 2026 model, though city efficiency rose for several regular trims. The PHEV SE trim saw a slight increase to 129 mpg-e, and the Plug-in Hybrid maintains an electric-only range of up to 44 miles.
These releases follow a significant sales slump for the Prius, which saw a decline of approximately 42-43% during the first six months of the year. This trend occurred despite rising gas prices linked to the war in Iran. The 2027 models are available to order and are expected to reach dealerships this summer.
