Street Fighter Leads Box Office Despite Poor Reviews
Street Fighter topped the box office with a 51 million dollar global opening, while an Elizabeth Holmes documentary set a 13-year record for A24.
The video game adaptation Street Fighter, a co-production between Legendary Entertainment and Capcom distributed by Paramount Pictures, led the box office this weekend. The film earned 31 million dollars domestically and 51 million dollars globally in its opening. Despite the financial lead, the movie received a B- CinemaScore and a 40% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
A24 secured the second-place spot with the documentary You Can See Everything, which focuses on convicted fraudster Elizabeth Holmes. The film earned 15 million dollars from 855 screens, marking the highest documentary opening in at least 13 years.
Other releases struggled or showed volatility. 20th Century Studios' survival thriller Whalefall opened to 8 million dollars domestically and 17.5 million dollars worldwide, underperforming against a 60 million dollar net budget. Meanwhile, Sony Pictures' Resident Evil continues to perform well, nearing 150 million dollars domestically and 361 million dollars globally. In contrast, Warner Bros.' Digger saw a sharp decline, grossing only 920,000 dollars in its third weekend.
