Ontario Ministry of Transportation Schedules Highway Closures Across Four Regions

The Ministry of Transportation scheduled dozens of highway closures for roadwork across Peel, Niagara, Waterloo, and Halton regions between August 23 and 24.

The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation scheduled a series of provincial highway closures for short-term and emergency repairs across several Ontario regions on August 23 and 24, 2026.

On August 23, the agency implemented 63 closures. Peel region saw 33 closures affecting Highway 401, 403, 410, and the Queen Elizabeth Way. Niagara had 23 closures impacting the Queen Elizabeth Way and Highways 140, 420, and 58A, while Waterloo had seven closures on Highways 7, 8, and 85.

On August 24, the scope shifted to 44 closures across the Peel and Halton regions. Peel again faced 33 closures on major routes, including Highway 10 and Highway 9. Halton experienced 11 closures primarily on the Queen Elizabeth Way and Highway 401.

These disruptions included nightly, daily, and continuous lane closures. In the Peel region, the Ontario Provincial Police assisted with short-term full shutdowns, including specific closures on Highway 410. The ministry noted that all schedules remained subject to change based on weather and emergency factors.
