JP Nadda Defends Police Raid on CPI(M) Office in Rajya Sabha

Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, J.P. Nadda, defended police actions against student activists during a heated session of Parliament on July 29, 2026. The debate followed a Tuesday raid by Delhi Police on AKG Bhavan, the national headquarters of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), to arrest student leader Aishe Ghosh over cases pending since 2020-21.

The dispute also touched upon a July 20 'Sansad Chalo' march from Jantar Mantar toward Parliament, where security forces used lathicharges and tear gas to disperse crowds. This followed a 37-day student agitation by the CJP that had previously ended after the government promised to address protesters' demands.

Nadda described the events as a normal law and order activity, arguing that students engaging in activism should expect to face police action. He cited his own history of arrests during the Emergency to support his position. The confrontation led to widespread sloganeering and disruption, prompting Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan to adjourn the House until noon.
