Reserve Bank of India Liquidity Withdrawals Flatten Bond Yield Curve

The Reserve Bank of India is increasing liquidity withdrawals to drain surplus cash, pressuring short-term bond yields and narrowing the gap with 10-year debt.

The Reserve Bank of India is increasing liquidity withdrawals to drain surplus cash from the financial system, a move expected to flatten the national bond yield curve. This policy shift is placing upward pressure on shorter-term maturities, causing investors to favor 10-year debt over five-year notes.

Financial analysts from the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Ltd. and Anand Rathi Global Finance Ltd. anticipate that the yield gap between five-year and 10-year bonds will narrow as a result of these measures.

ICICI Securities Primary Dealership Ltd. suggests that if the central bank maintains an aggressive approach to policy tightening, the five-year yield could rise to approximately 7% from its current level of 6.94%.
