General Mills and Ziploc Launch Resealable Cheerios Packaging
General Mills partnered with Ziploc to launch Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal, the first traditional cereal box featuring an integrated resealable bag.
General Mills partnered with S. C. Johnson & Son's Ziploc brand to launch Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal, the first traditional cereal box featuring an integrated resealable bag. Available for original Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios, the packaging uses a zipper-style closure that peels partially open to create a pour spout, eliminating the need for consumers to fold boxes or use external clips.
The initiative responds to hundreds of thousands of annual customer requests and a December 2025 survey showing that 90% of cereal eaters take extra steps to maintain freshness. To support the launch, the company optimized production at its Buffalo, New York plant to manufacture the new packaging at a scale of nearly one box per second.
The product became available exclusively at Walmart.com on October 27, 2026. A nationwide retail rollout to other stores is planned for the coming months.
