UPS to Hire 100,000 Seasonal Workers Amid Restructuring
UPS will hire 100,000 seasonal workers for the 2026 holiday season as part of a strategic shift toward higher-margin shipments and automation.
UPS plans to hire 100,000 seasonal workers for the 2026 holiday shipping season, continuing a two-year decline in temporary staffing. The hiring target is lower than the 110,000 workers recruited in 2025 and the 125,000 hired in 2024.
This reduction is part of a broader restructuring strategy to decrease reliance on Amazon volume and prioritize more lucrative shipment categories. As part of this shift, the company is closing 24 facilities and cutting up to 30,000 operational positions throughout 2026. To offset labor reductions, the company is upgrading automated facilities in Denver, St. Paul, Syracuse, and Portland, and launching a PIN-based security feature called Protected Delivery for high-value items.
Despite the operational cuts, the company raised its full-year revenue forecast to approximately $91.2 billion following a strong second quarter. Executive Vice President and Chief U.S. Domestic Officer Matt Guffey stated that the company is ready to perform when demand is at its highest.
