Dangote Refinery Raises $2.5 Billion in Africa's Largest Private Placement
Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals completed a $2.5 billion private equity placement to fund refinery expansions in Nigeria and Kenya.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals (DPRP) completed a $2.5 billion private equity placement, the largest publicly disclosed primary equity private placement in Africa. The offering was 3.7 times oversubscribed and attracted a diverse group of international and African institutional investors, including the Africa Finance Corporation and India Infra Buildco.
This fundraising marks the company's first equity round involving external investors beyond its legacy base and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited. The company intends to use the proceeds to strengthen its capital structure, enhance financial flexibility, and expand refining and petrochemical operations.
Long-term growth plans include increasing Nigerian refining capacity from 650,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day. Additionally, the company plans to construct a 700,000-bpd refinery in Lamu, Kenya, to further reduce Africa's reliance on imported refined products.
