Estonia Vows to Repel Potential Russian Incursion in Narva

The Government of Estonia issued a warning that it will defend its territory against any attempted Russian incursion. The statement follows a scenario proposed by the Institute for the Study of War suggesting a limited Russian incursion into the city of Narva, where Russian agents would seize buildings to establish a Narva People's Republic and request military protection from Moscow.

Merili Arjakas, a research fellow at the International Centre for Defence and Security, disputed the assumptions of the scenario. Arjakas stated that Estonia possesses the counter-intelligence, reserve-based military forces, and NATO partnerships required to prevent and repel such an attack. She noted that Estonia has invested heavily in long-range strike weaponry and air defense to deter aggression.

Estonian officials emphasized that any such incursion would be treated as a military threat to NATO members. Arjakas argued that any aggressive plan against the country must be disrupted or countered pre-emptively.
